Are you one of the “500 happy customers” who were contacted by ÖBB to take part in a survey? Do you receive 55 euros for completing the survey? Although this sounds tempting, it is a scam. After completing the survey, you will be asked to provide your credit card information and approve a payment! Therefore, ignore this email.

The following email is currently being sent randomly to numerous people:

Do you also want to lure friends or family into a trap? Send your friends a fake competition we have recreated. Don't worry: there will be no damage! But anyone who plays through the competition will find out how the fake could be recognized.
How does the scam work?
The news may sound tempting. In fact, no money is given away here, but rather money is transferred to fraudsters. The criminals do the following:
Anyone who clicks on the link actually ends up in a survey. The question is whether the travel wish was fulfilled, whether the travelers were sufficiently informed or how information should be made available in the future.

The questions seem serious. That's exactly what the criminals want. They try to appear trustworthy in order to then get your money. In the next step, however, data is requested, including credit card details. But that's not all: you then have to enter a code that was sent to you via SMS. Caution! This would release a payment. The money ends up directly in the hands of the criminals!
How to recognize the fraud!
- Matching email address? Check whether the email actually comes from ÖBB. In this case, the email address should end in @oebb.at.
- Suitable domain? The domain that is displayed at the top of the address bar is also not oebb.at! Another alarm signal.
- No conditions of participation? Anyone who organizes a competition must make the conditions of participation transparent. There are none? Hands off.
- Request for credit card details? You should only provide such sensitive data if you are sure that you are on a trustworthy site. At the latest when you have to enter a code, you know that it is fake!
