This tempting offer is currently circulating on Facebook and is making many hearts beat faster. But be careful: what sounds too good to be true usually has a catch. The status post on Facebook reads:

❗️The ÖBB have launched a campaign in which Austrian residents have the opportunity to receive a card for free train journeys for a year at a price of €1.95.🔥 Please click on the “More details” button and answer a few questions to apply for the card.👉 The promotion takes place in each of the federal states🇦🇹 (sic!)

The real “climate ticket” from ÖBB

The right offer from the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) is the “ climate ticket ”. This does not cost EUR 1.95, but EUR 1,095 or EUR 821 for certain groups of people. Not quite as cheap, but at least realistic.

The deceptive click on “More information”

If you follow the seductive Facebook post, you end up on a website that at first glance looks very similar to the ÖBB. But if you take a closer look, the URL reveals the fraud. Important: The URL mentioned was used unlawfully and has no connection to the fraud described! The website operator also fell victim to a sneaky attack. We've already brought this to your attention! The site asks for all your sensitive data. Why? It's about phishing, where your trust is being shamelessly exploited.

What's really behind it?

The goal of this fake site? Your credit card details! You will never see an annual pass or climate ticket, but your data will end up in the wrong hands. And that can get really expensive! The same case already happened with “Deutsche Bahn”. There was also HERE
