“But it has a bow, so it must be right!” Bows around cars have a long tradition in fake competitions.
It's not just a tradition, but almost a distinctive feature: Whenever a car is raffled off in a fake competition on Facebook, you see a thick ribbon around that car.
It used to be these big red ones, but today it's also blue ribbons. And these pictures are absolutely real, or were actually taken in a car dealership!

The stupid thing about it: Fraudsters like to use these images for their fake competitions. You then usually see real winners, employees of a car dealership from some competition, who then have to serve as the fake on Facebook. Just like the fake competition run by “ Autohaus Mentrok GmbH ”. Note: There is actually a car dealership with this name, but that has nothing to do with the fake!
This Facebook page does not provide any owner information and the photos are misused. Nevertheless, thousands of people take part. In the end, this competition should be a viral success, even though the site is a total fake.
And the bow?
Yes, a fake competition like this needs to be illustrated and these ribbon pictures are perfect for that. Otherwise we are dealing with a classic. Comment, share, like. The main thing is that users interact or follow a link that actually has completely different purposes.
We are giving away a VW Golf worth €34,995 each to FIVE (5x) participants! ? Here's how you can win: ✅ Share this post! ✅ Comment with “Golf” (each letter as an individual comment without being interrupted, otherwise you have to start over!) The raffle ends on December 10th, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. ⏰. _____________________ We are not affiliated with Facebook. We wish you good luck
What is exciting is that fake competitions have enormous reach on Facebook and the platform operator hardly or very slowly intervenes. We at Mimikama have been observing these fakes for many years, but instead of a decrease in the number of fake competitions, we are finding more and more of them.
