Hardly any other party has as many false quotes and invented phrases attributed to it as the Greens. Just like this statement, for which there is no evidence.

The most important thing about this supposed quote from Claudia Roth in brief:

  • A sharepic shows a quote that is said to be attributed to Claudia Roth
  • There is no evidence for this quote
  • The quote uses common Green bashing narratives

It is a sentence that is attributed to the politician Claudia Roth in a sharepic. The point is that she indirectly welcomes the fact that Germans will be a minority in her own country in the future and that she therefore no longer needs Germans as voters:

[mk_ad]

“We don’t actually need German voters anymore. In a few years they will be in the minority anyway.”

Basically, the statement in the sharepic shown below is logically inconsistent, as you have to have German citizenship in order to be able to vote.

Fake sharepic about Claudia Roth
Fake sharepic about Claudia Roth

Who is entitled to vote is regulated by Article 38 Paragraph 2 of the Basic Law and Section 12 of the Federal Elections Act. According to this, all German citizens who have reached the age of 18 on election day, have been resident in Germany for at least three months and are not excluded from the right to vote are allowed to have a say in a federal election.

Does the sentence come from Claudia Roth?

A quote search via search engines is unsuccessful at this point. There is therefore no evidence that Claudia Roth said or wrote this sentence.

However, there are quite similar quotes that are attributed to the Green politician, but have turned out to be fake quotes. The fact checkers at Correctiv write in their article “False quote from Claudia Roth rehashed” about a quote that sounds very similar in content ( compare ):

“You Germans no longer have any culture or identity anyway, so why cheer? “We Greens will make sure that everything German disappears and Islam finally comes in.”

[mk_ad]

The fake quote, which Correctiv examined, comes from a screenshot that is supposed to show a Twitter account belonging to Claudia Roth. The problem, however, is that Claudia Roth is not represented on Twitter, so she cannot have published the tweet.

Narrative

The narrative behind it is identical in both cases: the story is told here of identityless Greens who want to abolish (“exchange”) Germany and Christian culture and instead want to replace them with foreign cultures and religions.

This narrative sounds so plausible to many social media users that you can easily embed a fake quote in it and this newly created fake sounds credible because the narrative structures sound familiar.

We examined several similar (fake) quotes ( see here) and found a very similar narrative structure here too.
