Climate is not weather. And newspaper headlines were often “clickbait” even before the internet.

Clickbait refers to headlines that announce sensational news in an article, but are not actually present in the article itself. The headline is intentionally misleading to encourage readers to view an article.
A newspaper did this decades ago, claiming in the headline that it was 56 degrees in Germany.

56 degrees in Germany?
56 degrees in Germany?

“56 degrees! All of Germany is a hotbed!”

... was the title of “Bild am Sonntag” on the front page on July 7, 1957, and of course references to Greta Thunberg and “Fridays for Future” are made in the articles and comments.

The headline readers

Then as now, there is a special category of readers: the headline readers!
This species is characterized by the fact that they only read the headlines in newspapers, magazines and articles on the Internet and then believe that they are already fully informed.

If you ask members of this species about a source, they will often reply: “It was in the newspaper,” “It was on the Internet,” or our favorite: “It was even on Facebook!” (Warning, shocking news: Facebook isn’t news agency!).

The article

To be fair, the screenshot that many commentators are happy about, that “ back then you were still allowed to say Negro ” (yes, your personal freedom was really severely restricted since the term was frowned upon), was taken including the beginning of the article.

So let's just zoom in closer:

The station clock failed at 56 degrees
The station clock failed at 56 degrees

“When the temperature was 56 degrees in the case, the Wanne-Eickel train station clock stopped working.”

So it was n't 56 degrees in Germany, but in a watch case !

The actual weather, however, can be looked up in the “ Kachelmannwetter ” archive, for example: In July 1957, temperatures in southern Germany rose to up to 37 degrees.

Conclusion

Climate is not weather , that should be emphasized again here. Picking out individual weather events to refute the demands of “Fridays for Future” is more like desperation.

And the 56 degrees were reached in a watch case in Germany. A small but nice piece of information that unfortunately didn't make it into the title line.
