Thomas Mohr, chairman of the police union, doesn't find this funny at all, and he published the following status post on this topic on Facebook.

+++Attention Fake News+++
A video is currently being shared on FB that was posted by a Herold Rü under the post “Police car stolen, near Herschelbad”.
In the comments my colleagues are insulted as “idiots, letting their box be stolen…”!
Shame on you!!!
This is incredible and absolutely underground! Just let the “Schadenfreude” run wild and be happy about it and celebrate the supposed “patrol car thief” virally!!!
I personally know the facts that the video shows!
The fact is:
- In the video in question, the patrol car seen in it was not stolen, but colleagues of mine were sitting in it!
– The colleagues who were running on foot were chasing a suspected person!
So they're not the crew of the patrol car in front.
The impression that they are running after their “stolen patrol car” is wrong and simply maliciously interpreted into the situation!
The distribution of this video creates an impression that simply does not correspond to the facts!
The video also provides a platform to make meaningless and offensive comments that consciously and intentionally defame my colleagues!
This is unacceptable and I personally strongly condemn it.
That's why I felt the need to make this post here and refute the false impression given in the video!
Kind regards from Mannheim, Thomas Mohr

In Thomas Mohr's contribution, Police Chief Andreas Stenger also speaks out. Stenger writes:

Example of a so-called hoax - i.e. a digital false report - also a good example of the fact that it is important to always check such reports with regard to their plausibility. Fake news, alternative facts, perceived truths - typical social media phenomena that show that you can't believe everything that goes viral!!!!

We can only agree with these words.
