It was only when he looked at the alleged account connection in Lithuania that a Plettenberg businessman noticed on Friday that the invoice on his desk did not come from the district court.
The stitch
He was supposed to transfer several hundred euros for an entry in the commercial register. The bill allegedly came from the Munich district court. Because he had just made an entry in the commercial register, he believed in its authenticity. It was only when he created the transfer that he noticed the “LT” IBAN. He canceled the money transfer and instead filed a police report about attempted fraud.
The police warn
The police are once again using this process as an opportunity to warn against false commercial register invoices. The fraudsters deliberately target business people who have little or no experience with such entries - for example start-ups. Apparently the fraudsters are specifically searching through registers. Then they send invoices that at least give the impression of an “official” payment request. Only upon closer inspection do discrepancies become apparent. There are also variants in which the senders try to sell companies an entry in a private company register at a high price.
Check invoices carefully
The police advise checking the invoices carefully: If the invoice really comes from the court, the recipient of the payment is always a judicial fund with a German account. The fraudsters give the invoice recipients extremely short payment terms in order to give their victims no time to think about it. The fees charged are also usually significantly higher than the actual fee due. Compare file or cash register numbers with those in your documents.
