The claim
It is alleged that the Family Ministry is calling for the terms “father” and “mother” to be abolished.
Our conclusion
The claim is false. The ministry didn't demand anything, but rather suggested that teachers rephrase it - in forms!
Do you still know that old ad on TV that said in a dramatic voice and with a ticker “ Dentists demand: brush your teeth three times a day ? ” Even back then I asked myself when they started demanding this and why we only hear about it in advertising.
Of course, this requirement never existed; at the time it was advice that was used to dramatize TV advertising. The situation is similar with the claim that the Family Ministry is calling for the abolition of “father” and “mother”.
But the ministry is not demanding anything, but rather suggested a reformulation - and only in forms!
The claim circulating
As early as 2019 ( we reported ), the claim about the alleged demand from the Family Ministry was circulating, and various politicians and parties and called it “madness” and “gender madness” - but apparently without even finding out a little about it to have what is really behind it.
And now the claim is circulating again as a sharepic:

It's all about the wording in forms!
It started with the “ Rainbow Portal ”, a site run by the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSJ). On this page, the ministry provides information on the topics of “same-sex lifestyles” and “sexual diversity”.
The article “Recognizing and supporting sexual diversity at school” makes various suggestions as to how teachers at schools could promote solidarity-based behavior, for example by paying attention to gender-neutral wording in forms (e.g. “Parent 1 and 2” instead of “Mother and Father”) ) .

Specifically, it's just a suggestion for changes to forms in order to show solidarity and not make the topic taboo.
At the time, the BFMSJ commented on Facebook about the claim that the terms “father” and “mother” should be abolished (see HERE ):
“The designation of “Parent 1” and “Parent 2” is merely a generic term in an authority form. Every mother remains a mother and every father remains a father. Changing this is not at all up for debate. Of course, we continue to talk about mothers and fathers in everyday life and when we have conversations. In forms, however, all family constellations can be taken into account without value or hierarchy using the term “parent”. Incidentally, this has been the practice everywhere in Germany for years when applying for parental allowance and works smoothly for 1.8 million parents .”
Incidentally, this wording is provided in forms by the states, so it cannot be specified by a federal ministry, as AFP writes . The terms “Parent 1” and “Parent 2” have long appeared in most forms, but also terms such as “maternity benefit” or “proof of paternity”.
Conclusion
There was and is no demand from the Family Ministry to abolish the terms “father” and “mother”. In 2019, this was a suggestion on a website of the Ministry of Family Affairs for the formulation in forms. So the outrage at that time and now is completely out of thin air.
