Despite its meteoric rise, TikTok continues to find itself in the dock. It's mostly about data security in general and protection of personal data in particular. TikTok is fighting back in every way, including by introducing a service called “Family Pairing” two years ago that allows parents to keep an eye on their children’s activity on the app. However, according to TikTok, this is not used enough. That's why the platform is now launching a new campaign to raise awareness of Family Pairing and encourage more discussion about the service.
“Family Pairing”: 2,000 US parents surveyed about communication with children
TikTok made this decision after the results of a survey by researcher YouGov .
“We commissioned YouGov to survey over 2,000 U.S. parents of 13- to 17-year-olds to better understand how they have conversations about online safety with their teens. “We wanted to find out how often parents talk to their teens about online experiences, how often they discuss safety issues, and what safety measures they use in their own households.”
TikTok
According to this, 78 percent of parents surveyed believe that it is their responsibility to talk to their children about online safety. 61 percent only talk to their teens about online safety after their teens encounter a problem and they confront them about it. Only 33 percent of parents say they talk to their teens weekly about their use of online and social media platforms. The results show that most parents have a certain level of trust in their children, but many are hesitant to proactively and consistently initiate conversations about their children's online activities.
