26-year-old caught during a check with a “fantasy document” – the “driving license” came from the Internet
The Cross-Border Police Team (GPT) Bad Bentheim caught a 26-year-old man with a so-called “fantasy driving license” on Tuesday morning. Because he didn't have his own driving license, he simply ordered his alleged "international driving license" online.
The 26-year-old had previously entered Germany from the Netherlands via the BAB 30. The vehicle was stopped and checked in the Waldseite Süd car park by officers from the German-Dutch police team.
During the check, the 26-year-old gave the officers a so-called “fantasy driving license” instead of an official driving license. It doesn't have much resemblance to an official document and was simply ordered by the man online. He doesn't even have a driver's license.
The officers of the Bad Bentheim cross-border police team initiated criminal proceedings against the 26-year-old Colombian. Because the passenger had a valid driving license, the journey could continue with a new driver behind the wheel after the police measures were completed.
The Cross-Border Police Team (GPT) is an association between the Royal Marechaussee (NL), the Politieeenheid Oost-Nederland (NL), the Hanover Federal Police Directorate, the Osnabrück Police Department (Lower Saxony) and the Borken District Police Authority (North Rhine-Westphalia).
The team carries out joint patrols in the German-Dutch border area to combat cross-border crimes such as smuggling, human trafficking, document crime, drug trafficking, money laundering and vehicle crime.
