Often you only think about it after you have sent it: messages in messenger services that you perhaps didn't mean, that contain the wrong link, that are embarrassing.

But what has long been possible with services such as Skype, Discord and Whatsapp has not yet been available with Facebook Messenger: the subsequent deletion of sent messages.

Zuckerberg could do it

As part of the Cambridge Analytica scandal at the beginning of the year, it was also revealed that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg already had this function for subsequently deleting messages. TechCrunch reported that Zuckerberg had this feature to prevent leaks of confidential information he sent to others. At that time it was already promised that this function would also be made available to users.

When does this start working?

There is not yet an official date for the activation of this function. You can now delete messages, but only for yourself; the person you are talking to can still see the messages.
Twitter user Jane Manchun Wong has now found a function in the messenger code that will allow all users to delete messages in the future, but only after a certain period of time .
