Facebook wants to make it a little harder for fraudsters who create fake accounts in the future
As derStandard and Futurezone report, Facebook is currently testing a function to determine the “origin” of a message. WhatsApp and Messenger are becoming new tools to take action against fake accounts and fraudsters.
The system should be able to recognize whether a direct message comes from an acquaintance on the friends list or from an identity thief.
The scam of 1:1 copying of Facebook profiles is still popular and current. The fraudsters use the stolen identities to gain the trust of Facebook friends and steal money in this way.
This lousy trick should be put to an end in the future.
Users who receive a random message should in future be informed if it comes from a recently created account.
Facebook checks the user's number and when the account was registered. In addition, the telephone number associated with the new account should be used to determine the origin of a message.
If there are differences, the user is warned. Tests on a small scale were confirmed compared to Motherboard
