The claim
Claims on a video say Finnish tanks are being transported to the Russian border.
Our conclusion
This is wrong. They travel to the military exercise “Arrow 22” in Niinisalo and Säkylä in western Finland.
In a video currently circulating on the Internet, you can see a freight train carrying tanks. The captions for the video claim that they are being transported to the Russian border. Sometimes you also read about “WW3 Alert”.
The video can be found on all platforms such as Facebook ( HERE or HERE ), YouTube ( HERE or HERE ) or Twitter ( HERE , HERE ) or here:
“A video circulated by residents of #Tampere, #Finland shows the transport of military equipment to the eastern border with #Russia. In addition to dozens of Leopard tanks, a huge amount of Soviet equipment BMP, MTLB, KSHM-1V16"
Translation of the tweet
In each of the postings it is claimed that the route of the freight train leads to the Russian border.
"Arrow 22"
It is correct that tanks were transported through Finland in May 2022.
However, their goal was not the Russian border, but the city of Niinisalo. However, this is in the west of Finland, while the border with Russia is in the east. The reason for the transfer is a military exercise called “Arrow 22”. Finland's participation has been announced here for some time.
The false report is also corrected in a tweet from a verified account:
“A video is circulating on the Internet that supposedly shows tanks being moved to the Finnish borders. This is not true. The tanks were moved to the Arrow 22 mechanized army exercise. The exercise will take place in Niinisalo and Säkylä.”
Translation of the tweet
Furthermore, reference is made to a website where the exercise is explained in more detail:
“The Armored Brigade will lead the armed forces' mechanized exercise Arrow 22 in Pohjankangas in Niinisalo and Säkylä from May 2 to 13, 2022. In addition, international troops from Great Britain, Latvia, the USA and Estonia will take part in the exercise.”
Colonel Rainer Kuosmanen, commander of the country's armored brigade, tweeted photos of the tanks on May 2 and wrote of the exercise:
“#ARROW22 starts today. The troops of the armored brigade traditionally move to training by train. In the evening these wagons are already in their collection area in Pohjankangas. “
The video was shot in Tampere, a Finnish city. Using Google Maps you can see the striking chimney next to the white and gray building at the beginning of the video.

This geolocation can also be used to determine that the train is traveling west.
The same video can also be found on YouTube with the correct caption:
Conclusion
The video is real. Tanks were moved through Finland on a freight train. It is correct that the video was recorded in Tampere.
However, the train does not go east to get to the Russian border, but rather west. Here the tanks are part of a military exercise called “Arrow 22”. This will take place from May 2nd to 13th, 2022 in Niinisalo and Säkylä.
