A heartbreaking story from Argentina.

Tragic: Dog dies of panic attack! Because fireworks were set off, the old dog “Magui” was so frightened that she suffered a fatal panic attack. She died in her master's arms. Every dog and cat owner knows how badly some animals can suffer from fireworks and firecrackers. However, this is the horror scenario that you simply don't want to imagine:

Fireworks and firecrackers were set off near Antonella Modasjazh's apartment in the Argentine city of Esquel. Antonella's dog Magui was already old and terrified of fireworks. When the shooting started, she was extremely scared. Even attempts to calm her down by her owner and her son didn't help. Antonella had called a vet, but unfortunately he didn't arrive in time.

Magui died in the arms of her human family.

"It was terrible. Everyone celebrated wildly and our dog died.”

Run free, Magui!

Anke, our veterinarian from the Mimikama team, says in addition to this incident:

“Since we don't know anything more about any previous illnesses, we cannot rule out that the dog already suffered from other illnesses.
Yes, you can die from fear, even as a dog, but there are usually other problems in the background such as heart disease, etc. The fear triggered the death, but I think it is questionable whether this alone was the cause.

Tips for pets on New Year's Eve / New Year's Eve checklist for dogs

  • Always keep your dog on a leash, because firecrackers can cause problems.
  • Allow yourself to eat a large portion in the evening - a full stomach means less anxiety.
  • Darken the room (blinds down, curtains closed)
  • Keep dog walks short; last round around 8 p.m
  • Query secure commands – that provides security.
  • Social Support: Stroking, physical contact and reassurance are expressly permitted.
  • If you are very scared: go to the vet in time to get medication (with the animal)
  • For smaller scaredy cats: eggnog – after consultation with the vet (no joke!)
  • Under no circumstances should you administer acepromazine (trade names Calmivet , Prequillan , Relaquine , Sedalin , Tranquigel , Tranquiline , Vetranquil ).
  • Cover ears with cotton wool if the dog allows it.
  • Stay calm yourself – fear transmits itself!
  • Go to the country and avoid the crowds.
  • Don't leave the dog alone!
  • Calm, regular noises or music (like a puppy) will calm you down
  • Tellington touch
