A photo taken during a boat accident off the coast of Libya is said to be fake because the skin color of a dead baby appears “too white”...
The Internet is full of surprises - unfortunately most of them aren't particularly good.
Two arrows are supposed to prove that a photo of a boat accident was supposed to have been faked. “Flying people” and “babies that are too white”… that’s what people on Facebook and Twitter are currently dealing with:

A boat full of black ones and the baby is white
Fact check:
At this point we can take up the work of our Italian colleague David Puente , as this claim was initially common in Italian.
The fact checker David Puente reports that this claim is currently appearing increasingly on Facebook and Twitter - especially in the Italian-speaking world.
Sono una persona educata e tendo a trattenere the parole another che momenti di rabbia. Tuttavia, the parola is educata che trovo per definire this tweet è “merda”.

The photo comes from a photo series by photographer Mahmud Turkia and shows the victims of a boat accident that occurred off the coast of Libya. If you enter the search terms “MAHMUD TURKIA LIBYA-MIGRANTS-SHIPWRECK” into Getty Images, you will find the following 11 photos of the event:
Some of these can be seen in media reports from the AFP (Agence France-Presse). The boat accident was also reported in this country. These include derStandard, t-online , FAZ and tagesspiegel . Said photo can also be found in the image that the AFP cites as the source.
According to t-online, witnesses told AFP that there were many Moroccan families and Yemenis on board the capsized boat - including babies, children and numerous women. The coast guard said it recovered three dead babies.
And why is the baby white?
There can be various reasons why it looks or is white in the photo.
One of them would be Adipocire or corpse lipid (colloquially also called fat or corpse wax; “saponification”). This condition can occur after death in corpses that are in a wet or very humid environment - but only after 4 to 6 weeks (so it is not an option here).
Another reason could be that not only completely dark-skinned people live on the African continent... you can also find people with very different pigmentation here. No matter whether they live there, escape together or help other people. Here in Europe, too, there are people whose skin is more pigmented than others.
I don't understand why the question of skin color seems to be more important or urgent than the fact that a young life is being found dead here.
Let's move on to the circled leg, which at first glance suggests that someone is “floating” here.
Since this is a snapshot, it is quite possible that we see a person jumping , like this in the video:
A second video can be found here
Even if it is repeatedly claimed that these are puppets and that the whole thing was staged. This impression can be caused by the rigor mortis of children's bodies. Unfortunately, the boat accident really happened and these babies are real.
Result:
The first image in the status post was obviously manipulated.
The picture below is real and was taken by Mahmud Turkia. The series of images of this boat accident can be found in various media reports.
There are several reasons why the dead baby appears “too white” in the photo. The fact is, it is dead and was recovered from the sea.
