She thought she was helping her son - that's why a woman from Beckum transferred money to fraudsters. The 56-year-old from Beckum received a short message this week. In this message, a fraudster posed as her own son, suggested that she urgently needed money and gave her bank account details. The woman from Beckum transferred the money in good faith and also sent the requested proof of the transfer to the third-party number. The fraud was only discovered later in the evening.

The strangers often send WhatsApp or SMS and pose as themselves
- Children who supposedly had a new number
- Relatives who are in an emergency situation
- Partners involved in an accident
In the news, the perpetrators often demand money transfers. The contact is usually quite personal, so that their victims believe they are talking to real relatives.
If you receive a message like this:
- Do not transfer money
- Call the number you know and not the number you don't know
- Check with family members and try to reach the real person
