A 48-year-old woman from Neuwerk-Mitte has fallen victim to fraudsters who used the love scamming scam. In this form of fraud, the perpetrators feign love and make the victims emotionally dependent in order to steal money.

Two and a half years ago, the woman met a man who claimed to be a famous singer via a messenger service. The two exchanged emails and contact became closer.

The fraudster later pretended to be in financial distress.

His accounts are frozen. He asked the 48-year-old to help him. The woman transferred Bitcoins to the fraudster several times. She also bought him some credit cards for an Internet sales platform for computer games, software, films, series and computer devices.

In total, the fraudsters stole Bitcoins and credit cards with a value in the lower five-digit range . When the woman threatened to call the police if she didn't get her money back, the fraudster broke off contact.

The police warn: Be skeptical about virtual acquaintances! Talk to someone you trust about the contact. Contact the police at the latest if the acquaintance demands money from you.
