The dealers have a supposed interest in items that often turn out to be unsaleable. The intention to purchase these things is then used as an excuse to get in touch with you.
Away from the ad: jewelry or gold?
During the first contact on the phone, the supposed dealers ask whether there are other valuables for sale. Often people specifically ask about jewelry or gold. The dealers try to arrange an appointment to inspect the items.
During the visit, the supposed dealers offer you an extremely high sum for worthless things and direct the conversation to other valuable items. Among other things, they are interested in gold, silver, watches or coins. The suspected fraudster then buys these things for a low sum. The valuable items are then immediately paid for in cash and taken away.
In order to achieve this goal, those affected are put under massive pressure and pressured to sell quickly - often with the emphasis on how good the selling price offered is. The suspected fraudster allegedly didn't have enough cash for the item he actually purchased and would come back the next day to pick up the rest of the items. However, the valuables that the alleged dealer bought for a ridiculous price are taken away immediately.
