Beware of fraudulent SMS messages in the name of “Willhaben”. The SMS does not come from the platform and should be ignored.

Willhaben users who have published goods for sale on the classifieds platform must beware of fraudulent SMS messages. The fictitious messages inform about an alleged payment and refer to www-willhaben. com or www-willhaben. org.

The SMS does not come from Willhaben and must be ignored!

If you have published ads on Willhaben, you may receive a text message with fraudulent content about your ad. Criminals try to trick you into installing malware on your smartphone.

Your phone number and payment details will then be requested, which in the worst case scenario can lead to debits from your bank account.

Ignore message!

If you receive such a message about one of your ads on Willhaben, ignore it and definitely do not follow the instructions on the fake Willhaben website to which the SMS refers.

Otherwise, you will provide the criminals behind the phishing message with personal information, which could result in a debit from your bank account.

Warning from willhaben.at.

Willhaben itself warns against the scam and is taking appropriate measures against the phishing attack on its own users.

Also note: Willhaben never sends SMS messages informing you about a payment. In such cases you can be sure that the message does not come from Willhaben.

Have you been a victim?

If you have provided your data as requested by the criminals and installed the app on your smartphone, take the following steps:

  • Contact your bank. It is probably necessary to freeze your bank account.
  • Uninstall the fraudulent app from your smartphone. You may need to reset your device to factory settings. Please note that all data will be lost.
  • Change any passwords you entered in the app.
  • If you have already suffered financial damage, you must report it to the police.
