The Internet Watchlist warns against cybercriminals who fake a warning
Consumers receive a warning for copyright infringement. In it, fraudsters claim that a legal violation has occurred on a streaming platform. For this reason, recipients should transfer money to a foreign account. Consumers can ignore the warning and do not have to make any payment.
Consumers who registered on a dubious streaming platform and received an invoice because they supposedly took out a 1-year premium membership will receive a warning for copyright infringement after a very long time. It reads like this:
From: “ipfirmltd.eu”
Subject: Warning for copyright infringementWeb AZ: 643TH
Warning for copyright infringement
In the aforementioned matter, we would like to point out that the company 20th Century Fox™ (foxmovies.com) has commissioned us to represent its legal interests. The proper authorization is ensured by a lawyer.
The subject of our commission is a copyright infringement committed on June 12, 2017 via your IP address on the following illegal streaming platform: Kinox.to
According to the ruling of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) of April 26, 2017 (case number C-527/15, press release), the actions of users who stream films or series from illegal sources are unlawful.
As part of a public prosecutor's request for information in accordance with Section 113 TKG, it was reported that the IP address: 85.124.4.42 corresponds to yours. You are therefore liable under civil law for any copyright infringement committed using your IP address.

Do you have to pay the copyright infringement notice?
This is evident, among other things, from the fact that the lawyers named in the letter do not exist .
Lawyers do not send warnings about copyright infringement by email, but by post. In your warning you specify the specific legal violation in detail. There is nothing comparable in the message. It simply says: “The subject of our commission is a copyright infringement committed on June 12, 2017 via your IP address, on the following illegal streaming platform: Kinox.to”.
Where did the senders get their data from?
When you browse the Internet, you leave a trail of data. It is therefore possible for website operators to find out which operating system you use, which provider you are with or what your IP address is. This makes it possible to draw conclusions about your location. Since this is normal information about you and your computer connection, you should not be unsettled by the fact that the sender includes this data in the warning about copyright infringement.
How should you deal with the warning?
We recommend that you block the sender and move the copyright infringement notice to your spam folder. This means that your email provider learns from similar emails that they are unsolicited. It filters these automatically and sends them directly to the spam folder. After a while, this means that you will no longer receive dubious payment requests.
The Internet Watchlist recommends:
Do not pay any money for a copyright infringement warning, because it is dubious and fraudulent!
