Our fact check

First of all: It is not a fake! We took a close look at this and contacted the manufacturer themselves! All customers who register on the company's website receive a month's supply of toilet paper for free. Production is scheduled to begin at the beginning of February 2023.

A win for all parties

Flashback: First Corona lockdown in 2020. Toilet paper was often completely out of stock in supermarkets. Only when you can no longer buy something so banal do you realize how much it is actually worth. That's what the company "Tissu4u" thought with their new business idea: In February, the three-person company will start printing toilet paper rolls with advertising from companies, including a QR code.

The starting signal is planned with 10,000 rolls in Vienna-Schwechat. At the same time, production begins in Eisenstadt. The customer receives free toilet paper for a month and the company offers comparatively cheap advertising space: the customer pays between 10 and 20 cents for at least 20 logos and QR codes on a roll. A maximum of ten companies will be represented per role.

The concept is unique: “We conducted market research through the patent office ,” explains the company’s founder, Jürgen Hriza. The result: The idea of using toilet paper as an advertising medium is so absurdly ingenious that no one has had it before. It's not that new, at least as far as Tissu4u is concerned: "The idea is actually ten years old, but back then I was only thinking about the logo ," says the founder. Now, with all the possibilities that QR codes offer, the idea was ready for implementation.

Personalized advertising possible

Customers can register on the website ( www.tissu4u.at ) and directly indicate their preferences in order to order and receive their personal “toilet paper of interest”. Hriza says: “It is more sustainable than any leaflet campaign . The QR codes are particularly special these days, because half of all Austrians take their cell phones with them to the toilet. In general: the younger, the more often. So in the future you will have the opportunity to come across the websites of the advertising companies directly - right in the middle of the quiet town.

By the way: The toilet paper used is three-ply. If you find it too thin, Hriza advises you to use it twice: "After all, it's free anyway," jokes the founder.

The group plans to switch to recycled paper in mid-2023. Companies that want to be present often pay 20 cents per roll. The managing director is surprised that the offer has already been so well received: After the first week of online presence, over 500 people had already registered for the hygiene paper with advertising. “And that even though we haven’t even launched the advertising yet,” says Jürgen Hriza happily.
