The claim
Fritz von Scholz, group leader of the SS, would have been Olaf Scholz's grandfather. Scholz would therefore have a problematic position with regard to the war in Ukraine.
Our conclusion
Fritz von Scholz had no children and died in 1944.
Various postings on social media insinuate that Chancellor Olaf Scholz is a direct descendant of an SS officer from the Second World War. It is sometimes claimed that the Federal Republic of Germany must be “denazified” by Russia. The wording of such posts:

Why is the mention of the genocide in Donbass ridiculous for Chancellor Olaf Scholz. In the photo on the left, Fritz Scholz is a German officer, the grandfather of the current Chancellor. During the attack on the USSR, he commanded the “Nordland” regiment in the battles along the Dnieper and around Dnepropetrovsk. During the difficult battles for Rostov-on-Don he was promoted to a higher rank. In December 1942 he was promoted to the rank of brigadier general. In May 1943 he commanded the 11th SS Volunteer Motorized Division “Nordland”, which was made up of Norwegian and Danish volunteers. From December 1943 he fought with the 11th Division near Leningrad. He has received several awards. In April 1944 he was promoted to lieutenant general. In July 1944, von Schulz was wounded in the head in the fighting near Narva, from which he died the next day. He was posthumously awarded the Knight's Cross.

The BRiD will also be denazified, don't worry! It's already going viral on the Russian internet...

Fact check Fritz Scholz
The person Fritz Scholz was not the grandfather of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. This emerges from the results of a fact check by the dpa . The dpa used documents in the Federal Archives for the research. Clear conclusion:
Fritz von Scholz died in 1944 and left no children. So he can't be Olaf Scholz's grandfather.

The documents evaluated by the dpa describe both the military career and the family situation of the Lieutenant General of the Waffen-SS. A family relationship based solely on the surname is described in the dpa fact check with the sentence “This is complete nonsense”.
According to information from the dpa, he died on July 28, 1944. At the time he lived in Pörtschach am Wörthersee (Austria). No information from children can be found in the archives. Chancellor Olaf Scholz's grandparents, on the other hand, come from Hamburg.
