In the future, gawkers should be classified as criminals because the police and rescue workers are repeatedly hindered by uninvited onlookers.
Focus on gawkers: As ZDF reports via Facebook , criminal law has so far only protected living people from degrading images.
The situation is completely different with images of dead people who have become victims of traffic accidents or violent crimes. Such recordings have so far only been viewed as a violation of personal rights.
That should now change:
Anyone who comes up with the idea of photographing people who died in accidents should be classified as criminals in the future. This means that you can face fines and prison sentences of up to two years.
The Federal Cabinet has already passed a corresponding draft law for this purpose:
“These are people who lost their lives. It's incomprehensible to me how people can delight in pictures of this."
said Christine Lambrecht, Minister of Justice (SPD). [Source: Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung]
We have also repeatedly reported on obstruction caused by gawkers . Rescue workers are struggling with the increasing difficulty caused by gawkers.

People have always gawked, but not everyone used to have a cell phone camera at the ready. Videos and photos of victims quickly appear on social media.
Shock therapy for gawkers:
At the end of May we reported on Stefan Pfeiffer. He is head of operations for the Feucht traffic police and knows gawkers who not only illegally drive slower to get a photo, but sometimes even stop on the shoulder and sometimes film with both hands.
He asked several of these drivers to get out and offered them the opportunity to look directly at the truck driver's body and photograph it. None of the onlookers took up the offer. 128.50 euros were due from every driver who impaired and sometimes even endangered the flow of traffic by driving slowly and taking photos/films.
