Good hackers follow hacker ethics. Bad hackers don't comply... and then don't have to worry about being hacked themselves!
This is what happened to the platform “Brians Club” (also called “Brains Club”), which is not even hidden on the darknet, but supposedly offers “playing cards of the highest quality” on a site hosted in Russia Except that the playing cards are data from real credit cards!
The platform has existed since 2015 and has changed providers from time to time. In late 2018, the criminals began mocking security expert Brian Krebs by making their platform look like the “ Krebs on Security ” blog and writing “© 2019 Crabs on Security” under each page. Additionally, they credited Brian Krebs as the creator in every advertisement they published on the Internet in various places such as Deviant Art and " Medium.com ".

, in September 2019, the blog “ Krebs on Security ” received a text file that contained the credit card platform’s complete database. Several people then examined the database and were actually able to find the credit card details on “Brian's Club”, where they were offered for sale.
The data was then sent to several financial institutions, which were able to confirm the authenticity of the data. This also made it clear to what extent the platform traded with the data:
in 2015 there were “only” 1.7 million data records, but in 2016 it increased by 2.89 million, in 2017 around 4.9 million, in 2018 9.2 million and so on In 2019 an additional 7.6 million. In total there are 26.29 million credit card details in the database, which has been secured.

Based on the analysis of the database, the data was compared with the prices on the site, according to which the data has a total value of around 414 million dollars! Of this, 9.1 million pieces of data were sold between 2015 and August 2019, resulting in sales of $126 million.
With an average loss of 500 euros per stolen card (according to the US Treasury Department), with 9.1 million pieces of data sold, an economic loss of $4 billion can be expected.
Of course, many owners will have already blocked their credit card data when they realized that there were unauthorized debits, but samples showed that, extrapolated, around 14 million pieces of data are actually still valid.
