Ever faster, ever more complex: everyday life in high-performance Western societies is increasingly becoming a challenge for body and mind.

Many people find it tempting to use various methods to get their own thinking organs in top shape. Beyond drug abuse, there are definitely some approaches to getting the brain going, for example through special exercises or proper nutrition.

Sufficient sleep as a basis

Anyone looking for ways to improve performance should first critically examine their sleeping habits. Because when you sleep, the brain regenerates itself and eliminates the metabolic products that are deposited during the day. Even though individual sleep needs may vary, no one should sleep less than six hours a day in the long term. Otherwise there is a risk of a decrease in the ability to concentrate and all measures to improve the ability to think will be ineffective.

Enough regular exercise and a healthy diet

Contrary to what you might think, exercise also directly benefits the brain. Not only does this stimulate blood circulation and oxygen supply, regular moderate exercise can also ensure the formation of new synapses in the brain. Even light endurance exercise for 30 minutes three times a week can be proven to the ability to think and concentrate .

Your own diet also has a direct influence on the brain. Some often resort to sugary foods such as chocolate. But be careful: the sugar kick does result in a short-term increase in performance. But after a short time, the blood sugar level, which had previously risen sharply, drops again just as quickly and the ability to concentrate decreases again. It is better to eat a generally healthy diet with lots of complex carbohydrates, such as whole grain products or oatmeal. This keeps the blood sugar level stable and supplies the brain with constant energy. Antioxidants from fruits and vegetables as well as healthy fats from nuts and vegetable oils can also help provide the brain with the nutrients it needs.

Detect vitamin deficiency

Some preparations seem to be able to achieve a certain effect. Many blood tests show a slight vitamin B12 deficiency. Fatigue and lack of concentration can result. If such a deficiency can be identified, you should consider supplementation. In addition, substances such as CBD have recently been increasingly offered. This cannabinoid from the hemp plant is taken by some athletes and thinkers and does not have psychoactive effects like its relative THC. In addition to better regeneration, they hope to reduce oxidative stress on the brain and nerves. There should also be initial evidence of a reduction in cortisol levels, which can improve mood and improve cognition and memory. Products such as Biobloom CBD oils are officially sold as cosmetic products. Furthermore, food additives such as lecithin are often offered on the market. Advertising touts an increase in brain performance and slowed aging processes, but there is still no evidence of effectiveness.

Memory training

In addition, normal everyday life also offers opportunities for brain training. For example, if you forego a shopping list or often leave the navigation system switched off in the car, you are also training your gray cells. In addition to special advice literature, there are also special apps for smartphones in which tasks such as arithmetic exercises or word-finding games can be completed. In addition to a healthy lifestyle and exercise, you can often notice the first successes after a short time.
