Now the time has come for “good Michel” to rebel! And especially when it comes to his car.

Apparently millions of cars are parked on the highways and streets in Germany in protest against high gasoline prices. The government increased the price of gasoline and within an hour people simply abandoned their cars, no matter where they were.

This claim is circulating in English and is accompanied by a picture of evidence. Yes, pictures are always good! The power of the image. The following picture recently resurfaced on Instagram:

But what if this picture does not belong to the situation described, or even if the entire situation described does not exist?

Seriously…

Come on, as if a German of ALL people would just leave his car somewhere in protest. And then millions of people too. Yep… the fake debunks itself, so to speak. It's as if the sales representative leaves his A6 Avant in the middle of the A42 in Castrop Rauxel while driving to work and walks home. A Porsche Cayenne lingers next to him, and just a few minutes ago the driver was competing to see who could get through the construction site in Herne Wanne the fastest. Is clear.

No, of course this claim is nonsense and the photo is simply used to provide pseudo-evidence for this nonsense. In the end, it's about a pseudo-legitimation for one's own frustration with rising gasoline prices. And this time not in Germany, but rather it will be distributed primarily on English-speaking accounts. German drivers are being used for the fake at this point. Various international websites reported on this fake in November 2017.

Image origin

You can also clearly see from the picture that it could not have been taken in Germany. This is a picture from China from 2012. At that time, there was a mega traffic jam because Chinese politicians decided to give free travel on the roads by abolishing highway tolls. It was the first time in a decade that China's highways were toll-free. Many families took advantage of this and went on vacation by car during the eight-day national holiday. Hundreds of thousands of drivers were stuck in traffic jams on the first day of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
