Violence and exploitation against minors
The number of reports of sexual exploitation of minors to ECPAT Deutschland eV is increasing sharply - in 2020 there was an increase of 42% compared to the previous year. ECPAT is responding to this together with the Federal Criminal Police Office, NINA eV and jugendschutz.net by publishing a new landing page for the reporting platform [1] www.nicht-wegsicht.net . The aim is to make it easier for users to deal with suspected cases and thus quickly find the right contact point.
Andrea Wagner, Managing Director of ECPAT Deutschland eV, thanks the partner organizations for their cooperation and emphasizes:
“Bundling the different contact points on the new homepage makes it possible to report suspected cases precisely and at a low threshold, which is what is needed to enable the protection of children.”
Since 2014, ECPAT has been running www.nicht-wegsicht.net Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) for reports of sexual exploitation of minors in tourism and travel.
Hans-Joachim Leon, head of the BKA's “Violent and Sexual Offenses” group, warns: “The number of tips has increased sharply since then.” The reporting platform offers travelers the opportunity to report evidence of sexual exploitation of minors abroad to ECPAT or the BKA - this offer will continue to exist. Suspected cases received by ECPAT are evaluated and, if necessary, passed on to national and international partner organizations.
In recent years, there has been an increasing number of indications of possible threats to children's well-being in Germany, as well as indications of sexual exploitation in the digital space. In 2021, reported suspected online-related cases made up the largest share of reports at 51%. In order to meet this increased need, ECPAT has initiated collaborations with partner organizations. NINA eV offers telephone and online advice on sexual violence against minors in Germany. Information about sexualized violence on the Internet can be reported to jugendschutz.net .
ECPAT Germany e. V. The Working Group for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation – ECPAT Deutschland eV is a nationwide association of 28 organizations, aid organizations and advice centers. The specialist office was founded in 2001 and is part of the international ECPAT network based in Bangkok/Thailand. ECPAT is involved in the areas of politics, justice, business and education and, in collaboration with (non-)governmental partner organizations, carries out measures and projects to raise awareness among the professional public, to develop preventative measures and to create the legal basis for protecting children from sexual exploitation . In order to ensure the long-term existence of these offers, ECPAT relies on donations . Further information can be found at www.ecpat.de and the evaluation of the reporting platform 2021 here
