The competition bait business has been booming for some time now with various amusement parks. This is also the case with Legoland.

After Europa Park and, most recently, Phantasialand, we are already receiving more and more inquiries about another competition for free tickets.

This time Legoland is used as bait:

If you read the title carefully, you can already identify the first mistake: The Legoland...

Well, since an article isn't necessarily proof of a fake, let's look into the matter again:

The fact check

What we are seeing here is so-called competition bait . So it is stated that there are 5 free tickets for 300 families to win... but these free tickets do not exist.

If you follow the link, you will reach the following website:

Suddenly instead of 5 there are only 2 free tickets and to add a touch of pressure to the whole thing, it is mentioned that you only have so and so many tickets left to give away... so quickly go ahead and answer three pointless questions. However, this round of questions is only intended to give the impression that there is something to be won. If you have achieved this, you should share this competition:

This step generates exactly the links in Facebook or WhatsApp that we receive requests for.

Basically, this “competition” is a bridge to the actual purpose and that is Affiliate .

In our test run, we got stuck at this point because the expected forwarding did not take place, even though the competition had previously been distributed virally.

So what happens if you are successfully redirected after sharing?

Affiliate programs

As with the alleged Europa Park and Phantasialand competition, after this fake competition a link takes you to another page that is part of a commission program.

In terms of content, this partner program can, but does not have to, be similar to the competition. But usually it's about completely different promises than in the bait...

Seen in this way, this affiliate is not illegal, because it is a business model in which the respective provider compensates its sales partners through commissions. These sales partners are recognized by an identification code so that every newly registered participant in the affiliate competition can also be assigned to the sales partner.

By the way, the person who designs the bridge freely decides which partner program he uses as an exit. We also often find systems that read the participant's origin and device information and thus direct them specifically to different commission programs. Therefore, you can never say clearly which commission program will ultimately be used; in the worst case, you will end up with dubious WAP billing stories or opaque subscription services.

Result:

As with the previous competitions, there is nothing to be won here, even if the competition or the page “hangs” during the process.

If you are actually interested in real winnings, you should stick to official competitions - including transparent organizers and conditions of participation.

If you stumble across such a competition bait, it's best to ignore it. If you have already clicked on it and notice that you are being put under pressure or are being asked to answer questions, it is best to close the page.
