A trick that supposedly allows you to avoid paying the broadcasting fee is supposed to cause the authorities to “gasp and sweat with fear.”

At least that's what a website has recently claimed. This ingenious (however pointless) trick is: revoke your direct debit authorization and insist on cash payment. And since this is not possible, you would automatically be exempt from paying the broadcasting fee. As simple as that!
Is not it!
Even if you don't have a bank account and can therefore only pay in cash (which is no longer possible these days because there is a so-called basic account, also known as an " account for everyone "), you are obliged to pay the broadcasting fee as a household.
Contribution payers who can only pay the broadcasting contribution in cash, for example because they do not have a bank account, can do this at the banking institutions specified on the payment requests from the contribution service. An overview of the bank details of the contribution service can be found here. When paying the broadcasting fee, please note that your own 9-digit fee number is stated as the intended purpose. This is the only way the contribution service can assign the payment to the correct contribution account.
It should be noted that credit institutions usually charge a processing fee for cash deposits into someone else's account. The amount of this fee is between 5 and 15 euros. It is not charged by the contribution service, but is set out in the terms and conditions of the respective credit institution.
And what about Section 14 BBankG?
From Section 14 Paragraph 1 Sentence 2 BBankG quoted in the article, contributors cannot derive any right to pay the broadcasting fee in cash. The regulation does not exclude the possibility of cash payments using banknotes being limited in clearly defined areas for reasons of administrative simplification and cost savings.
The obligation to pay contributions continues even if a direct debit authorization from the contribution service is revoked or the person paying the contribution stops paying. If a contributor does not meet their payment obligation, the dunning procedure will be initiated.
The contribution service recommends that all contributors pay the broadcasting contribution cashlessly via SEPA direct debit. Adjustments to the broadcasting fee, such as the recent reduction to 17.50 euros, are automatically taken into account for those paying by direct debit. It is also guaranteed that no payment can be forgotten, which would result in costs for late payment surcharges and reminder fees (cf. Section 9 Paragraph 2 Sentence 1 No. 5 State Broadcasting Fee Treaty).
Conclusion
So simply avoid the broadcasting fee by insisting on paying in cash? No , this “genius trick” is just a wild poking around in laws without having read or understood them properly.
