After an attack on two students, a 14-year-old died from her serious injuries on Monday.
At around 7:30 a.m., witnesses reported to the police that two girls had been attacked and injured in Oberkirchberg. The emergency services were alerted and immediately looked after the 13 and 14 year old girls and took them to clinics. The 14-year-old, a German with a migrant background, died there during the day. The autopsy, which is still ongoing, should provide more information about the exact cause of death.
The police immediately began an investigation.
She learned that the attacker had come from a neighboring accommodation for asylum seekers and fled there again after the crime. When the police searched it with special forces, they found three residents, all asylum seekers from Eritrea. She took two of them with her to the office. The third was injured and needed medical treatment.
According to investigators' current findings, the girls were probably attacked with a knife. The girls were on their way to school at the time. After the attack, the 14-year-old had to be resuscitated at the scene before she was taken to the clinic, where she died despite all medical efforts. The 13-year-old, also a German citizen, had to be treated in a clinic for serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The 27-year-old, who was found injured at the accommodation, is suspected of having attacked the girls. The police also found a knife on him, which could be considered a murder weapon. The suspect is currently in a hospital under police guard.
The public prosecutor's office and the police are now investigating why the attack on the two girls occurred and whether the suspect and the two girls knew each other beforehand.
The police emphasize that they are aware that events of this type fuel fears and emotions. She therefore asks that you do not harbor general suspicions about strangers, those seeking protection or asylum seekers in general or that you encourage or support such suspicions.
