The Dortmund police have started an investigation after an unknown man approached and harassed a girl at a primary school on Gneisenaustraße in Dortmund on Friday afternoon (September 9th). A 7-year-old girl who was on break at the time mentioned was affected around 12 - 12.30 p.m. The girl stated that the stranger tried to lure her away in English and grabbed her wrist. She was able to free herself and ran away.
The child describes the man as follows:
- approx. 165 -175 cm tall
- dark short hair
- dark skin color
- dark clothing
- Backpack with a green beer bottle
The criminal police have started the investigation. The police officers responsible for the area are sensitized and are increasingly present and approachable in this area.
A letter to parents
A letter to parents is also doing the rounds on social media and yes, it was forwarded to those involved: “There was a specific case in the schoolyard in which a child was approached and grabbed by the arm,” writes Deputy Principal Jens Rosenstock. The staff “looks carefully at the entrance to the schoolyard,” especially when dropping off and picking up students.

The school itself writes on its website:
Dear parents,
news has been spreading since yesterday that is very unsettling for many parents.
These are the facts:
- A child from our school was approached in the schoolyard, the police were informed and all necessary steps were taken.
- The police are increasing their patrols.
- The man in the photo online is not the person who was in the schoolyard.
This is what we do as a school:
- Today we talk to the children about how they should behave in similar situations.
- We avoid panic and clarify the children's questions.
- We pay particular attention to everyone who is on the school grounds and approach unknown people.
This is what you can do:
- Answer your child's questions.
- Explain to your children how they should behave in similar situations.
If you need help with such conversations, contact us and we will advise you.
