The city of Karlsruhe provides information about the measures taken after a criminal cyber attack on Karlsruhe schools last weekend. An emergency team of experts is currently checking the servers of a total of 77 schools. The work is progressing according to plan. The priority is the security of the data. According to current information, no personal data has been compromised.
Hacker attack: The hackers introduced malware and encrypted system data
The review currently underway will determine how many of the 77 schools are actually affected.
The investigations on the first day revealed that an eighth school, the secondary school at Rennbuckel, was also the target of the hacker attack. As already announced on February 13, 2023, the Adam Remmele School, the Hardt School, the School on Turmberg, the Wolfartsweier Elementary School, the Markgrafen High School, the Neureut Realschule and the Erich Kästner School were affected by the cyber attack.
The servers were initially shut down for the necessary checks. During this time, the schools cannot use the relevant systems and cannot be reached online. After completion and release, the servers will gradually go back online.
The police have started investigations based on the criminal complaint filed by the city of Karlsruhe against unknown persons. The city of Karlsruhe will provide information about further findings.
