And some of these specimens could almost be doctored... Fake or real?

We once again received inquiries about an article that was heavily featured on the website! is to be read.

It's about a picture in which a man presents a furred fish.

Does this hairy fish really exist?

NO!!!

Our American colleagues at Snopes identified this hoax in May 2015. We also had the pleasure 2017

The fur trout

The fur trout is a popular myth among American, English and Icelandic fishermen and hunters.

This special fish was reported as early as the 17th century. even mentioned in a 1929 article in Montana Wildlife Magazine by JH Hicken.

There is a trout on display at the Royal Museum of Scotland that was “made” by Ross C. Jobe, he simply covered it with rabbit fur.

In many lodges and restaurants you can find alleged trophies of these cute animals, all covered in either hare or rabbit fur.

Supposedly a subspecies of the common freshwater trout, but this does not exist.

So our pretty cute fur trout fits into the myths of Nessie, Bigfoot, Wolpertinger and other creatures.

Fungal disease causes hair to grow

Now there is actually a fungal disease that looks as if the fish has individual tufts of hair, but these are very reminiscent of a mold infestation (always a little hairy). That is why this disease is also called fish mold or saprolegnia . But it really doesn't look like real fur!

There's also a deep-sea fish that looks a little hairy! However, quite different from a trout!

And what should a deep-sea fish do in a river?

We can't say with certainty what kind of fur this particular trout was covered with, but it can be said with certainty that the furred trout doesn't exist , even though it looks so cute!

Well, there are probably also the colleagues from Feier! I fell victim to this hoax, but that can happen to almost anyone!

even be found in Pschyrembel or was it just a little joke there, who knows?
