This clickbait scam is about emotional blackmail.

We know them enough: photos of children who are in the hospital, young women whose limbs have supposedly been amputated and the request to comment with “Amen” because no one else would do that…

Because you don't want to be labeled as heartless, you comment and push Facebook pages, most of which are not interested in the real story behind a photo. Just like the photo of little Lucas, which can still be found on social media today and is used by the page creators to collect likes and comments:

Image in plain text:

His school told him that no one would wish him a happy birthday because of his illness.
He is 11 years old today.
Please do not scroll any further without typing “Happy Birthday”.

No matter whether it’s “Amen” or “Happy Birthday” – it doesn’t help the child. Especially not if these photos can be found on clickbait sites. Sites that steal photos and then entice people to interact on their site by putting the photo in a different context.

The true story

The boy is little Lucas Costa from Brazil, who turned 9 in December 2016.MIMIKAMA So the boy is 10 years old today. Little Lucas suffers from a very rare skin disease called “Epidermolysis bullosa”. The treatment of this disease is very expensive. Brazilian-born singer Wesley Safadão held a concert at the end of July 2016 and donated part of his proceeds to the treatment of Lucas Costa. At his concert, the artist also wore a T-shirt with the name “LUCAS” on it.

The reason is that he is a father of two children himself. Lucas himself attended the concert and, sitting in a wheelchair, was brought onto the stage, where the artist published a picture with Lucas:

A separate Instagram channel was also dedicated to little Lucas, which is where the photo that you can see on Facebook came from.

More than 158,000 users follow little Lucas at: https://www.instagram.com/amigosdolucascosta/

We think it's terrible that a picture of a sick child is used to get likes! We won't allow ourselves to be emotionally blackmailed!

Especially not from people who have no idea about Luca's life and just want to get a few likes from his fate. On the contrary: the family and those around them deserve great recognition, which cannot be expressed with a simple like to calm one's own conscience.
