A brand new chain letter is on WhatsApp and it's as pointless as a chain letter can be!

Pointless, illogical and completely useless – these are the attributes you have to assign to this chain letter, because all of these apply to it. The reason is Article 13 of the

The chain letter asks recipients to forward it to at least 20 people. The reason: if at least 500,000 people forward the chain letter, WhatsApp would not shut down.

The letter is written in the first person and suggests that it comes from the legislature (“We are Article 13”). The content is:

Hello, we are Article 13 and we want to delete the following social networks: (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter)

We are currently making an agreement with WhatsApp and we are doing it so that if you send this letter to at least 20 people, it will be included. If at least 500,000 people send this letter to others, we are considering using these platforms.

So if you want you have to keep sending this letter and we will reach 500,000 in just 1 month we will let the platforms.

Thank you for your time !

Does this chain letter come from “Article 13”

No. Article 13 is not an institution or similar, but an article in the EU copyright reform, which, among other things and under certain conditions, is intended to make social media operators liable for copyright infringements by users.

This Article 13 cannot create a chain letter, nor are the people negotiating it responsible for a chain letter.

Does Article 13 want to delete social networks?

No. Article 13 does not provide for the deletion of social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, but, as already mentioned, among other things, for their liability for copyright infringements.

However, this is often overly dramatic and sometimes misinterpreted and the end result is chain letters like this one.

Is there any use in sending the chain letter?

No, that doesn't help at all. Unless you want to show that you have no idea about EU copyright reform.
