Criminals caused a lot of damage to a company from Nümbrecht by diverting funds to their accounts using falsified invoices. According to the current status of the investigation, the perpetrators intercepted electronically sent invoices from a French supplier company and provided them with changed account details. The fraud was only discovered when the supplier company pointed out that the payments were still outstanding.

The effort for the fraudsters is quite high in such cases - as is the amount of damage. The prerequisite is that the criminals manage to access a company's network or email traffic. They can then use the stolen data to go on a raid.

To protect against these acts, you should act particularly carefully and consult your business partner whenever an account details change. In addition, secure protection against possible third-party access to data or emails is a basic requirement so that criminals cannot even get to the necessary data.
