The claim
On Google Maps you can see swastika-shaped residential buildings in a small Italian town, and the place is said to be called “Hitler Quarter”.
Our conclusion
The houses are real, but the name only exists on Google Maps, probably from a “jokeman”
We received several inquiries about an entry on Google Maps that tops the discovery from a few years ago: In Italy there is a residential area with houses that are shaped like swastikas - and the residential area is also said to be the “Hitler Quarter”. be called.
The houses are real, but the name is not!
Everyone can (still) see the housing estate for themselves on Google Maps (see HERE ).

Outrage already in 2015
Several media outlets reported on the houses in September 2015: The residents of the villa complex in southern Italy were surprised when they realized that their houses looked like huge swastikas when viewed from above and the link to Google Maps went viral.
The houses are located in a neighborhood of the small town of Specchiolla in the province of Brindisi. However, they do not date from the Third Reich period, but were only built in the 1990s.
A possible explanation for the swastikas could be the use of L-shaped modular units that were arranged crosswise to optimize solar exposure and landscape views from each unit.
It is unclear who was responsible for the construction and whether the designer can be traced to determine whether this was done intentionally. He is expected to be difficult to prosecute. The destruction of the villas is also not on the agenda.
“Hitler Quarter” only exists on Google Maps
Since it is just a residential area without a specific name, someone probably came up with the idea of entering a name on Google Maps - because anyone can request this and anyone can also suggest changes. But not a single search engine finds signs, addresses or descriptions that say the complex of houses is really called “Hitler Quarter”.
By the way, you can help change this unspeakable name again:
- Click on the link to Google Maps ( HERE )
- Click on “Suggest a change”
- Click on “Change name or other details”
- For the place name, enter “Specchiolla” (the name of the town)
- Click on “Send”
Shortly afterwards you will receive an email from Google that the change is being checked. We hope that the more people who request it, the more Google will adopt the name change - because the residents themselves have already received enough ridicule for living in swastika buildings.
