The holiday season is starting and you're slowly thinking about where you want to spend the summer months. Criminals take advantage of this by advertising fraudulent holiday platforms on social media. Particularly original: The criminals use DeepFake avatars to advertise the fraudulent offers! At Saferinternet.at you can read more about DeepFakes and how you can recognize them.

This also applies to the fraudulent provider Kofi Mediation Travel Service, or Kofi Reisen. The provider advertises unbeatably cheap holiday offers at kofireisen.com, but also on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. For example, a week's vacation in Hurghada, Egypt is offered for €429.

In addition, “personal” advice is announced via WhatsApp, where the criminals persuade their victims to spend more. If you have transferred money to Kofi Reisen, it is often irretrievably lost.

How to spot fraudulent vacation offers

  • Lack of experience: Search for testimonials online. What do others say about the provider? If you find warnings, stay away! Also keep in mind: If no reviews or experiences can be found, this is also a warning signal. You may be one of the first victims!
  • Missing or incorrect legal notice: Always look for a legal notice and information about the company. Which company is behind it and where is it based? In the case of Kofi Reisen, the imprint data was stolen.
  • Unrealistic price & availability: If the price is unusually low, or if all offers for most dates are still available, this is an indication of fraud.
  • Inconsistencies on the website: Incorrect wording can be an indication of fraud. Sometimes descriptions don't make sense and, like grammatical errors, only partially translated texts and non-functioning links, are a sign of the provider's lack of seriousness.

Have you already booked? This is what needs to be done

The criminals require an advance payment to book the holiday offers. If you have already transferred money, you need to act quickly:

  • Contact your bank immediately: Contact your bank or credit card issuer as soon as possible and find out about the options for getting your money back.
  • Police report: Unfortunately, the only other option is to report it to the police .
