Caution is advised when preparing for your vacation: fraudsters offer products on fake sales platforms, so-called fake shops, for advance payment that actually do not exist. This can also be air travel. Be particularly careful with what appear to be bargains. Here it is important to check the sellers carefully, for example by researching search engines or the consumer advice center portals. Important: Never pay in advance. Instead, use secure payment methods: Pay by invoice.
Keep your home safe
Make sure your home does not appear to be unoccupied while you are away. Ask neighbors, relatives or friends to empty the mailbox regularly. Do not leave any information about your absence on the answering machine or on social networks.
Copies of important documents and emergency numbers
Before you leave, make copies of your most important identification documents (passport, driving license, vaccination certificate, etc.), your payment cards and tickets and keep them in a separate place in your luggage. Make a note of the blocking emergency number 116 116 or save it in your mobile phone so that you can have your payment card blocked immediately if it is stolen.
Safety on the go
When you are out and about, always lock your car, caravan or two-wheeler, even if you are away for a short time. If strangers approach you: Be vigilant, as criminals sometimes try to lure vacationers away from their vehicle using pretexts.
Protect valuables and use a safe
Pickpockets take advantage of crowds. Therefore, keep an eye on your valuables, especially at train and bus stations and airports. It is best to carry your means of payment, ID cards and tickets in various locked inner pockets of your clothing as close to your body as possible and also pay attention to your luggage. The same applies to your stay at your holiday destination, especially where there are a lot of people.
When you arrive at your holiday destination, it is best to leave your valuables in a safe or for safekeeping at the hotel or campsite management and only carry as much cash and payment cards with you as you need.
