Horrifying headlines about the alleged deaths of Horst Lichter, Barbara Schöneberger and Oliver Pocher are currently taking Facebook by storm. But be careful: behind these provocative headlines lies a sophisticated crypto scam. While fans can breathe a sigh of relief because Horst Lichter, Barbara Schöneberger and Oliver Pocher are fine, this incident shows once again how fraudulent tactics cross the boundaries of good taste.

Celebrities like Horst Lichter, Barbara Schöneberger and Oliver Pocher as bait in fraudulent networks

Click, read, be amazed. So often we allow ourselves to be taken on a digital journey by tempting headlines. But what if there is not just a story behind the headline, but a treacherous web of fraud? Horst Lichter, Barbara Schöneberger and Oliver Pocher – names we trust are being used as lures in the dark world of crypto scams.

It begins with a sensational headline: “A tragic loss for Germany: We say goodbye to Horst Lichter” or “Barbara Schöneberger” or “Oliver Pocher”

Facebook is currently full of status posts and advertisements that, at first glance, mourn the loss of several celebrities, only to lead to a dubious cryptocurrency scam. It's the terror that compels us to click, and before we know it we're being sucked into the depths of fake sites.

Fake websites: deception at the highest level

Fraudsters have found a simple but effective tool: fake websites that look confusingly similar to real news sites. Your goal? To steal your sensitive data and passwords. It is often tempting offers or urgent messages that tempt us to reveal our data. In this case, the “Tagesschau” website was faked! This can be seen, among other things, from the URL! The correct URL is https://www. tagesschau.de

The phantom of fake apps

But it's not just websites that are targeted by counterfeits. Fake crypto apps are becoming increasingly common in app stores. They promise high returns or charge fees for supposed withdrawals. The real price? The loss of your investment and possibly your data.

The False Face of Trust: Fake Celebrity Testimonials

It is not the first time that celebrities, including Armin Wolf and Stefan Raab, have fallen victim to such fraud! We reported on this in 2018 in 2022 that there are criminal networks behind such sites. Once you register on one of these sites, you can receive a call from a supposed "broker" who will "help" you make the "right" investment decisions on a fake investment site in order to get you to make more than 250 euros to invest. The site is always manipulated as if the victim had made a profit if they had invested a few seconds ago.

We reported in detail about the criminals' gigantic network here: Bitcoin Scam: How the network works with over 10,000 fraudulent sites .

Other tricks in the con artist's hat

  • Giveaway Scam: Double Your Crypto? Sounds fantastic, but it usually ends in disappointment and loss.
  • Blackmail Attempts: Emails claiming to have compromising information can be frightening. But most of the time these are empty threats.
  • Mining Hardware Rental: Instead of offering you a real return, these “companies” simply disappear with your money.

Navigate the crypto world safely

  • Protect your wallet: Private keys belong in safe hands - yours.
  • Check for authenticity: Test any crypto app carefully before investing heavily.
  • Be skeptical: pressure and urgency are often tools of manipulation.
  • Research: Every offer should stand up to close scrutiny.
  • If it sounds too good to be true... then it probably is.
