The claim
In a short video, a camera crew and doctors in protective suits can be seen in a hospital room, but a visible man is unprotected - supposedly proof that the filming with a corona patient is only staged.
Our conclusion
In the entire article, the man without a protective suit can be seen more often. This is a patient who has COVID-19 and requires observation, but no longer requires artificial ventilation and is no longer in critical condition.
The video was filmed on a television and obviously shows an Italian documentary, but in the background you can see a man watching the interview completely unprotected, while everyone else involved is wearing protective suits.
But this man doesn't need a protective suit at all - because the man was a patient, had COVID-19 at the time and didn't need ventilation.
The distributed video
already circulating in November 2020 ( we reported ) and caused confusion. Now it's circulating again, including on Twitter:
Here is a screenshot of the last second in the video:

The video spread particularly widely in “corona denier” circles; it is intended to prove that there is no real pandemic. It is claimed that the man is probably an employee or the director of the interview, so the scene in the hospital was just staged. In other common scenes, the man even smiles directly into the camera.
The man is himself a COVID-19 patient
The video comes from the TV format “La vita in diretta” from the Italian TV channel RAI. The TV magazine shows news, life stories and stories about personalities.
The corresponding excerpt comes from the episode on November 16, 2020. The article also appeared on YouTube at the time and can still be accessed via the Wayback Machine (see HERE ).
What is the hospital report about?
The report was broadcast live in the magazine from a hospital room in the sub-intensive therapy department of the Amedeo di Savoia hospital in Turin.
Important to know: A department for sub-intensive therapy contains patients who require constant monitoring but are no longer in a critical condition!
The man without a protective suit in the hospital room is not hidden and did not “accidentally” slip into the picture, but is also mentioned at the beginning of the report. The journalist explains that two patients were admitted to this room. The man can also be seen several times later in the video.
This is a patient who has COVID-19 and requires observation, but no longer requires artificial ventilation and is no longer in a critical condition.
Conclusion
Both the members of the television team and the doctors in the hospital room wear appropriate protective clothing. However, this is not necessary for the man as a patient, as the guidelines of the Higher Health Institute stipulate ( see HERE , PDF file) that protective equipment must be worn by the staff, but not necessarily by the patients, who are already infected with COVID-19. 19 are infected.
