Facebook, the far-reaching social network, is repeatedly caught in the crossfire of fraudulent activities. From fake profiles to fraudulent competitions, Facebook is the perfect battleground for cybercriminals. A particularly nasty scam is currently becoming more and more common: fraudsters pose as “Facebook” and create fake pages and status posts in which they “tag” users and site operators. What makes us at Mimikama particularly smile is that our “Think first, then click” page was also recently the target of such an attempted fraud.
It is this post:

The fraudster's scam
The scam site that flagged us is called “ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴘᴀɢᴇ ᴡᴀꜱ ʀᴇᴘᴏʀᴛᴇᴅ ꜰᴏʀ ᴠɪᴏʟᴀᴛɪᴏɴ ɪɴꜰʀɪɴɢᴇᴍ ᴇɴᴛ ꜱᴏ ᴏɴʟʏ ʏᴏᴜ ᴄᴀɴ ꜱᴇᴇ ɪᴛ”. If you follow this marking, you will receive a notice that your page violates Facebook's terms of use. This concerns the following points
- Uploading content for those over 18 years old
- Use of copyrighted videos or music
- Abuse or insult
Note: There are currently countless such sites, as you can see with a Facebook search:

The supposed solution
The message goes on to say that the site is restricted and can be reviewed upon request. A link is provided which many follow out of fear and concern. And now here's the kicker: This link leads to a fake Facebook page. Hard to see at first glance, the URL of the page reveals the fraud at second glance.
The fake site
A look at the domain can save your Facebook account - don't be fooled by fake pages! Look at the URL? It's not a facebook.com URL!
The fake site talks about unusual activity and violating community standards. It is offered to object to this decision by entering your data. There are two fields for “Username” and “Password”. If you enter your data here, the fraudsters have achieved their goal: your personal data is in their hands.

The dangerous consequence: phishing on Facebook
The fraudulent messages contain a link that purports to verify identity and update account security. But beware! This link does not come from Facebook! The scammers behind the fake site only want one thing: your personal details and login information. And it's not just a single post. This is a large-scale campaign on Facebook. Numerous pages with the name “ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴘᴀɢᴇ ᴡᴀꜱ ʀᴇᴘᴏʀᴛᴇᴅ ꜰᴏʀ ᴠɪᴏʟᴀᴛɪᴏɴ ɪɴꜰʀɪɴɢᴇᴍᴇɴ ᴛ ꜱᴏ ᴏɴʟʏ ʏᴏᴜ ᴄᴀɴ ꜱᴇᴇ ɪᴛ“ post such posts. Such fraudulent sites appear again and again under different names. Known examples include “Standards Meta” , “Server Network Registry Corporation”, “Social Network Registry Corporation”, “Fanpage Policy Issues”
Even worse: identity theft
The disaster begins when you upload a copy of your ID card here - as requested. Copies of ID cards are a veritable goldmine for identity thieves. They contain a lot of sensitive and personal data: name, date of birth, address, photo and even personal signatures. With this information, criminals can create a new but false “you”.
Conclusion: awareness and caution
This example shows how important it is to always be careful and vigilant with our digital identities. Fraudsters exploit users' fears and worries to obtain valuable data. But with awareness and caution, such traps can be recognized and avoided. That's why it's more important than ever: think first, then click!
