The photo of an alleged eagle's claw with a human hand nestled in it makes quite an impression. We received inquiries as to whether it really could be an eagle and whether a bird's foot could actually be that big.
This is the photo shared on social media platforms such as Facebook:

In case you've ever wondered how big an eagle's foot is.
The Eagle Claw fact check
The photo is a section. There are other photos in which you can also see the corresponding bird. For example, in this blog entry from March 2019 .
Blogger Steve Bodio writes the following:
The discussion started with this photo of a baby coronatu s and her FEET, on Matt's Facebook.
The discussion started with this photo of a baby Coronatus and its feet on Matt's Facebook.
The discussion is about the fact that the bird kingdom has some impressive predators to offer. We cannot confirm at this point whether the photos actually come from Matt or whether he just posted them.
However, the photo has been circulating on the internet for much longer than 2019. It can be traced back to at least 2016 , where it was already shared in forums. Most likely it is actually a young crowned eagle. (compare here , here and here )
The description also fits:
A juvenile crowned eagle looks very different from an adult.
It has light gray-brown feathers on its back, and its wings are edged in white, making the bird look like it has scales. Its head, breast, and belly are white, and its wing and tail feathers have gray bars. By the time it is three years old, the young crowned eagle has changed into its striking adult coloration. By the way, the crowned eagle is called that because it has a kind of feather crown / crest ( like the harpy eagle ) that it can put up and is native to Africa.
Update December 27, 2019, 8:28 a.m
We tracked down the original author! The man's name is Peera Jungteerapanich and he uploaded the photos to Facebook in 2016:
It is actually a young female crowned eagle and shows her development from the photos. But even for a crowned eagle, this young animal is particularly large.
Conclusion:
Of course, the sentence “In case you ever wondered how big an eagle’s foot is.” is formulated very generally. Despite everything, it is said about the crowned eagle that it is the most powerful eagle in Africa. While they are not the largest eagles in Africa, they do have a very long claw on each hind toe (as shown in the photo), which helps them kill animals more than four times their size.
