And if you want only you to know about it, you should pay a little extra for it.
We don't want your wife or family to find out what little dirty films you watch to relax. Or who knows who else I could tell this to… How would you respond to these or similar warnings? Well, let's say it with a little relaxation: preferably not at all! Nevertheless, the police warn against a blackmail method that uses exactly these arguments.
The West Hesse Police Headquarters is currently registering a large number of blackmail attempts via email. Around 20 crimes of this type have already been reported, mainly in Wiesbaden and Bad Homburg. In some cases, the perpetrators were successful because the victims felt under so much pressure that they actually transferred the requested amount of money. In the blackmail emails, previously unknown perpetrators claim to have hacked the victim's computer and installed a Trojan, with the help of which they allegedly filmed him visiting websites with pornographic content and associated sexual acts.
In order to avoid publication of the video material, those affected are asked by the sender to transfer 500 euros to their specified Bitcoin address. The blackmail emails are also received by people whose computers do not have the appropriate recording options. In all criminal complaints currently being processed, no corresponding malware was found on the victims' PCs. Therefore, the criminal police's urgent advice at this point: Never transfer money based on extortionate emails. The best way to deal with such communications is not to respond to them.
