If you also receive an unexpected message on behalf of the WKO, caution is advised at the moment, warns our cooperation partner Watchlist Internet . Criminals use fake emails designed by the Chamber of Commerce to try to get hold of company data in order to misuse it for later fraud. The fraudulent message reads like this:
From: WKO
Subject: Identify again
Dear entrepreneur,
Every entrepreneur is obliged to re-identify themselves.
Luckily, this can be done easily, safely and quickly via our website.
You can go through the process anytime, anywhere. You do not have to visit our office. After receiving the email, you have 4 working days to identify yourself again. What do I need?
A valid email address
A valid phone number
Identify
Don't do that?
Then your number will be blocked after this period has expired. Sincerely,
WKO
The WKO is already warning itself!
The Austrian Chamber of Commerce has now published a warning about the fraudulent message .
What happens when you click “Identify”?
If you follow the link in the scam message, you will end up on a poor replica of the WKO website. Here you should enter different data about yourself or your company in order to carry out the supposed identification. For example, you will be asked for the company name, your first and last name, your date of birth, address, telephone numbers and your IBAN. All of this ends up directly with the criminal senders.

How do you recognize the fraud?
There are a few clues that clearly expose the fraud:
- In some cases, “WKO” is displayed as the sender, but the email address has nothing to do with the Chamber of Commerce.
- The message comes completely unexpectedly and is sent unpersonalized.
- Companies and institutions such as the Chamber of Commerce no longer generally ask people to follow a link to enter data, as this is the usual procedure for phishing attacks.
- The linked web address is “ll-900.ir” and therefore has no connection to the WKO.
- The linked website contains numerous spelling errors and the links to the imprint etc. do not work.
Have you announced your company details?
In the present phishing case, it is not yet possible to understand what exactly happened to the accessed data. However, it can be assumed that these will be used for subsequent fraud on behalf of your company or for fraud against your company. The Watchlist Internet can therefore only advise you to be more careful after entering your data on the fraudulent website.
