The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) was able to identify the alleged operator of the two platforms “BoyVids 6.0” and “Forbidden Love”, which are said to have been among the largest online forums with depictions of abuse in the pedo-criminal scene. It is therefore a 21-year-old German from Saxony who was arrested on November 29th. According to information from NDR and WDR, access to the online forums has now been blocked by the authorities.
Several suspects identified
For several months, the BKA has been investigating the people behind several Internet forums in which thousands of links to photos and videos showing serious sexual abuse of children were available on behalf of the Central Office for Combating Internet Crime (ZIT) of the Frankfurt am Main Public Prosecutor's Office. In collaboration with the US Federal Police FBI and the police authorities in Australia and Brazil, the German investigators were finally able to identify several suspects.
A total of three suspects were arrested in Germany in November and December. In addition to the 21-year-old main administrator of the Darknet forums, a 44-year-old man from Lower Saxony and a 45-year-old from Schleswig-Holstein were arrested, as was another suspect in Brazil. The public prosecutor's office accuses them of distributing so-called child pornographic material as a gang.
Tens of thousands of active users
Around 410,000 people had registered on the “BoyVids 6.0” platform, which had existed since the beginning of December 2021, within a year. They exchanged recordings that showed sexual violence against males between the ages of 0 and 17. “Forbidden Love,” in turn, was about depictions of sexual violence against girls and young women. This platform has existed since February 2022. It recently recorded around 846,000 registrations.
Since many users create several accounts at the same time to protect themselves, the numbers do not allow reliable information about the number of total users. Analyzes by the ARD political magazine “Panorama” and “STRG_F” (NDR/funk) suggest that tens of thousands of people probably tuned in to “Boy Vids 6.0” and “Forbidden Love”.
Depictions of abuse can still be accessed
Although the forums have now been switched off, the content can apparently still be accessed with knowledge of the links to the illegal content. The perpetrators usually use storage services on the regular web to hide their photos and videos. On the dark web they then only share a link for downloading. According to NDR research, they were not systematically deleted in “BoyVids 6.0” and “Forbidden Love”, although this would have been possible.
A joint research project by NDR and the magazine “Der Spiegel” showed in December 2021 that large amounts of photos and videos could be systematically removed from the internet. The administrator who has now been arrested chose to conceal the links in his forums, which would have made it more difficult for the authorities to automatically delete them - but it would have been possible.
According to NDR research, a complete copy of “BoyVids 6.0” with around 78,000 pages appeared on the darknet on December 7th, which is now being used again to set up a successor platform. Here again you can find the illegal content that the law enforcement authorities could actually have deleted. The Public Prosecutor's Office reports that the evidence preservation process is currently ongoing and that the data should be deleted afterwards.
