The claim

A photo circulating shows an impaled head and two hands and is said to have been taken in Ukraine.

Our conclusion

It is proven that the photo was taken at the end of July, and there is also a video about it, which was published on July 26th in a pro-Russian Telegram channel in which war atrocities against Ukrainian soldiers are bragged.

These are recordings that we receive requests for and we wish that they were perhaps just old photos, but unfortunately the reality is different: photos and videos of war crimes in Ukraine keep appearing, and these recordings are part of them : An impaled head and two impaled hands in Popasna in Donbas.

The photo

One photo in particular also made it onto Telegram and Twitter, where it received particular attention.

The text of the tweet in German:

Will Russia be able to recover from this and return to the community of civilized nations?
At the moment it is bringing the darkness of the Middle Ages to its neighbors and peoples around the globe
#russianworld has arrived in occupied Popasna in Donbas

Where the photo was taken

Spanish Twitter user @TuiteroMartin, based on the details of the photo, particularly the street sign, geographically located the location where the photo was taken and confirmed that it is the Нагірна вулиця (Nahirna vulytsya, mountain road) of Popasna, a Ukrainian town in the region Luhansk. This can also be verified on Google Maps (see HERE ).

Russia took control of the area in early July.

When did the photo come from?

On July 31, Anton Gerashchenko, the former deputy interior minister of Ukraine, posted a video on his Telegram channel showing the decapitated body of a Ukrainian soldier as well as the same head and severed hands (see HERE ).

The uniform of the beheaded soldier can also be clearly seen in the video. The pattern is the MM-14 camouflage pattern used by Ukrainian armed forces .

The origin of the video

Now there are probably still voices at this point who will claim that this is Ukrainian propaganda against Russia and that perhaps this was a Russian soldier who was set up by Ukrainians. But the origin of the video, which shows the same scenery as the photo, should also dispel any remaining doubts.

The video was first published on July 26th in a Russian Telegram channel (see HERE ), which doesn't have "18+" in the title for nothing: The photos and videos shown show mutilated corpses of Ukrainian soldiers, often mockingly commented with words like " There's a Ukrainian pig lying there. Can't they even dispose of their dead? “.

Conclusion

It is proven that the photo was taken at the end of July, and there is also a video about it, which was published on July 26th in a pro-Russian Telegram channel in which war atrocities against Ukrainian soldiers are bragged.
