An incorrectly printed mourning ribbon from the SPD Mülheim an der Ruhr causes ridicule and malice, but also the question of how this could have happened.

Note: On November 20th, 2019 there was an update from the SPD Mülheim an der Ruhr, which was published on Facebook. ( reference )

This picture of the mourning ribbon is being spread on social networks:

The wreath was laid in the Dümpten district on Remembrance Day. The loop says:

“To the victims of war and despair”

No fake!

The mourning ribbon was actually supposed to say “To the victims of war and fascism,” but surprisingly no one noticed this mistake until the wreath was laid. The SPD Mülheim an der Ruhr distances itself on Facebook from the tastelessness of the lettering on the wreath for Remembrance Day on November 16, 2019 in Mülheim-Dümpten.

The SPD Mülheim an der Ruhr will now take legal action. According to their information, the Essen ribbon printing company told the nursery employee that they had read a "V" out of the "F" and "didn't think anything else." However, this does not explain the incorrect double use of “SS” in the neologism “Verschissmuss”.

Tagesspiegel , Rodion Bakum, a member of the SPD parliamentary group executive committee, assumes that it could not be a simple oversight, but rather suspects that it is intended to damage the reputation of the SPD.

The (intentional?) typographical error was removed from the mourning ribbon using nail scissors.
