The claim
A viral receipt about a 1,928 euro cash payment from the Eichstätt district office sparked discussions.
Our conclusion
In fact, it is a legitimate social benefit for the initial provision of clothing or education and participation. In this case, the payout affects several people, which resulted in the sum of 1,928 euros.
A photo of a receipt was recently spread on social media confirming a cash payment of 1,928 euros from the Eichstätt district office. The intended use was titled “BUT 1. HJ + initial equipment clothing”. This sparked numerous discussions.
Public opinion was divided, with some expressing envy and incomprehension about this seemingly generous payment to asylum seekers. The accusation that “we Germans get nothing” was often read in the comments. “Me first” often seems to have the highest priority, and understanding for other people's situations is increasingly lacking. Data protection is not taken into account; the receipt is distributed with the recipient's full name. And as is often the case on social media, the background was not questioned.

We looked for the facts and found answers. The Eichstätt district office replied to us within a few hours and clarified what this cash payment was all about.
The authenticity of the receipt “BUT 1st HJ + initial equipment clothing”
The question about the authenticity of the receipt is entirely justified. Particularly in times of fake news and manipulation of information on the Internet, skepticism is appropriate.
However, the Eichstätt district office has confirmed that the receipt is genuine. The agency welcomed our interest in clarification and provided us with information to better understand the situation.
Conditions for social benefits
As can be read on the receipt, this cash payment is support for “BUT 1. HJ” (education and participation) and “initial clothing equipment”. This is a form of social protection and integration that is granted in certain cases.
The Eichstätt district office sent us a PDF “Social security and integration benefits” in an email.

Accordingly, one-off benefits can be granted to those entitled to benefits in special circumstances. Such a case occurs when asylum seekers do not have a basic supply of clothing after entering the federal territory due to their flight and this need cannot be met by clothing stores or similar charitable institutions.
Amounts for BUT (education and participation) currently amount to 116 euros per child in the first half of school and 58 euros in the second half of school.
The amounts for the initial supply of clothing are as follows:
- Persons up to 6 years: 230 euros
- People aged 7 to 13: 255 euros
- People aged 14 and over: 280 euros
It is important to note that these amounts are not paid to individuals, but to the head of a family's household. This means that the total amount for a family goes to a single person within the family who acts as the head of the household - as in this case.
The receipt, which is now circulating online, shows a sum of 1,928 euros. Accordingly, this is a payout for several people, as the Eichstätt district office confirmed to us:

Misinformation and prejudice
Discussions on social media were often accompanied by accusations, accusations and hate speech against asylum seekers. Disseminating the evidence without context led to misunderstandings and prejudices. It is important to emphasize that social benefits for asylum seekers in Germany are subject to clear legal regulations and are not awarded arbitrarily.
Conclusion
As information spreads on social media, misinformation and prejudice can spread quickly. In the case of the cash payment of 1,928 euros by the Eichstätt district office, it is a legitimate social benefit for the initial provision of clothing for asylum seekers. It is important to understand the background before engaging in discussions or harboring prejudices.
Instead of immediately judging, we should all take a step back and try to examine and understand the facts. Public opinion should be based on factual information to enable informed discussion.
At a time when misinformation and prejudice are rampant, it is our responsibility to educate ourselves on the facts and encourage respectful and factual dialogue. This case shows how important it is to look beyond the headlines and search for the truth.
