According to a study, Instagram is the most popular social media platform. Facebook, on the other hand, has now been written off by young Americans.
Instagram is the most popular social media platform among both Millennials and Generation Z in the USA, but it also has a problem. Young people believe that it is the platform on which cyberbullying occurs most frequently. This is what the “Social America” study by the Cybersmile Foundation revealed.
The old giant Facebook, on the other hand, is the platform whose popularity is declining most significantly according to both generations and, according to Gen Z, the least relevant platform of all for young people.
Instagram is definitely great
For the study, Cybersmile surveyed over 20,000 Americans ages 13 to 34 about their views on social media, from Twitter to YouTube to TikTok. The clear number one among social networks is Instagram, which a total of 44 percent name as their favorite platform and 41 percent consider it to be the most relevant social media platform for young people.
In both cases, Snapchat follows in second place by a noticeable distance. In terms of popularity, Instagram is also the second fastest-growing platform, beaten only by the up-and-coming video clip service TikTok .

A clear dark side of Instagram in the eyes of young people is cyberbullying. Among Gen Z, almost a third of respondents see image and video services as platforms with the biggest problem in this area. Among millennials, on the other hand, Facebook is considered the hotbed of bullying.
Looking at all those surveyed, Instagram performed the worst with 26 percent, followed by Twitter, also by a small margin, in third place among cyberbullying problem areas. When it comes to cyberbullying, however, both age groups feel safest on Pinterest.
Facebook is not for young people
It's not really surprising that Facebook is now relatively unregistered among US youth. A total of 27 percent see it as the most irrelevant social network for young people. The only business network that performs similarly poorly is LinkedIn, which millennials mentioned even more often than Facebook.
There is agreement among the younger generations that Facebook is more popular with young people than any other platform. With almost a third of all mentions, it recorded more than the numbers two and three among the popularity decliners, Tumblr and Skype, combined.
